PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng starts Myanmar tour

VNGOP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, his spouse and entourage arrived Naypyidaw in the afternoon of August 14, starting their official visit to the Union of Myanmar.

After the solemn reception at the Naypyidaw Airport, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng paid a courtesy visit to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council, and held talks with Acting PM Thein Sein.

The two sides discussed solutions to increase bilateral cooperation in trade, gas and oil, transport, posts and telecommunications, agriculture, health, culture, and education as well as agreed to kick off the 6th meeting of the Việt Nam-Myanmar Joint Committee soon.

The two leaders also mentioned some specific measures to faciliate and encourage two-way trade. Another emphasis was the regime of payment between banks of the two countries. The two leaders applauded the signing of a memorandum of understanding on a strategic partnership between the Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group and the Myanmar Energy Ministry during this visit and the Vietnam Airlines' plan to launch a Hà Nội-Yangon direct air route in November 2007.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and Acting PM Thein Sein highly praised the close collaboration of the two countries at multilateral forums, including ASEAN, Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Việt Nam cooperation program, ACMECS, the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).

The two leaders expressed their desire and determination to bring the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Việt Nam and Myanmar to a new plane for the sake of mutual benefits, peace, stability, cooperation and development in each country, Southeast Asia and the world.
