PM delivers speech at nuclear security summit

VGP - PM Nguyen Tan Dung has stressed the main responsibility of each nation in ensuring nuclear security in his speech at the third Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, the Netherlands, in the afternoon of March 25.

He was speaking to representatives of 53 countries and five international organizations, including nearly 40 senior officials and top leaders of the world’s nuclear powers.

He said Viet Nam has step by step completed the legal system on nuclear security, ensure its control over high intensity of radioactivity sources in the country. It has started the implementation of measures to control the import and export of radioactivity sources at airports and seaports.

In addition, he stressed that Viet Nam has trained a personnel and built a culture of security in relevant agencies, actively joined in legal tools and international initiatives relating to nuclear security.

PM Dung highly praised the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the international nuclear security mechanism.

He said that Viet Nam has actively contributed to the IAEA’s activities as well as effectively used the organisation's support in nuclear security.

As a member and the chair of the IAEA’s Board of Governors in 2013-2014, Viet Nam would do its best together with other partners to actively contribute to ensuring global nuclear security.

PM Dung noted that the use of nuclear energy is for peace and the non - proliferation of nuclear weapon and disarmament are the common targets of the humankind.

He said that nations need to have detailed programs and suitable solutions to support others which are developing nuclear energy, and enhance their roles in multi-lateral mechanisms, especially the IAEA and the United Nations.
