PM urges stronger fight against AIDS, drugs, prostitution

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Tuesday asked ministries, sectors and localities nationwide to strengthen measures to prevent and combat HIV/AIDS, drugs and prostitution.

Inferior levels were requested to strictly follow statistics and report regime. Their reports must include shortcomings, solutions, and proposals.

They need to step up communications to raise public awareness about the issues, frequently launch crackdowns on drug criminals, and renew drug detoxification.  

The PM asked the Ministry of Defense to instruct border guards and sea police to closely monitor border areas and waters to prevent drug trafficking into Vietnam.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs is responsible for submitting to the PM a scheme on renewing drug detoxification, including diversifying models and methods of detoxification;

The Health Ministry strengthens coordination and control of addictive and precursor substances as well as actively supply methadone to certain drug detoxification centers.

Ministries of of Agriculture, Public Security and National Defense are in charge of boosting inspection and coordination to strictly handle the re-plantation of plants having addictive substances.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Finance Ministry were tasked to soon allocate funds to relevant agencies and localities. Meanwhile, the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Fight was required to propose the Politburo issue a resolution on enhancing the Party leadership in HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and fight in new situations.
