PMs agree on possibilities for cooperation between Laos and VN

VGP – Upon his arrival in Vientiane this afternoon for the 5th Cambodia-Laos-Việt Nam Development Triangle Meeting, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had a meeting with his Lao counterpart Bouasone Bouphavanh.

Showing his pleasure at Việt Nam’s contributions to the success of the meeting, PM Bouasone Bouphavanh reiterated that he welcomes and support all Vietnamese enterprises to do investment and business in Laos.

The host also expressed his desire to learn Việt Nam’s experience of regulating macro-economic and curbing inflation.

The two PMs were convinced that the Việt Nam-Laos relationship will be further consolidated and developed.

They also agreed on the potential areas for bilateral cooperation, especially hydroelectricity, mining, transportation, and industrial crop planting.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asked the Lao Government to support projects on economic development in border areas and give better conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to do investment in these regions.

On the occasion, a number of cooperation documents were inked, including the agreement on exploiting copper in Attapu; an MoU on hydroelectric plants Se Banghiang 1 and 2. And PetroVietnam’s Drilling Mud Corporation (DMC) was licensed to exploit barite in Laos..

On the same day, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng paid a visit to the Athletes’ Village for the 25 th SEA Games, a project financed by Việt Nam’s Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Corporation.

Việt Nam is now investing US $750 million in 141 projects in Laos, standing as the second biggest investor here.

The two-way trade turnover between the two countries is estimated to reach US $1 billion in 2010, US $2 billion in 2015 and US $5 billion in 2020.

The current figure (in first nine months of 2008) was US $350 million.
