Accordingly, by 2020, at least 100 genetic sources, which are applicable in developing agriculture, industry, medicine, pharmaceuticals, culture, environmental protection, security and national defence, are expected to be exploited and developed.
Genes having rare and precious features and economic values will be turned into competitive products bearing Viet Nam brand names.
Special genes with scientific, medical and pharmaceutical values and prospects to be developed into new products will also exploited to preserve and utilize sustainably genetic sources.
In addition, genetic sources, which can be materials for breeding, will be shortly exploited and developed.
The program stated the necessity of collecting and preserving safely biological genetic sources, identifying prioritized genetic sources which need collection and preservation and focusing on genetic sources which can become key products with high values, special genetic sources, as well as those facing losses and extinction.
Scientific and technological advancements will also be applied to standardize gene preserving and storing methods in dislocated conservation.
Native plants, domestic and wild animals, which closely related to plants, domestic animals, herbs and rare and precious species, will be studied in in situ conservation while on-field and dislocated conservation will be carried out for each genetic source.
