VN, Laos mark 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties

VGP – A solemn meeting was held in Hanoi on Wednesday to mark the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 35th anniversary of the signing of bilateral Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Vietnam and Laos.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Minister of National Defense Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang attended the meeting.

Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith and Minister of Education and Sports Phankham Viphavanh were also present at the event.  

In his remarks, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted that the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation has become the "invaluable property" and an important factor to ensure development in both countries.

The world, as Party leader said, has witnessed numerous upheavals since the two countries signed the treaty, however, the bilateral ties built by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane, fostered by Vietnamese and Lao Parties and generations of Vietnamese and Lao people, have been developing vigorously in various fields, effectively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and the world.

Both countries can be proud of their exemplary, loyal and transparent relationship between the two Parties, States and nations.

He stressed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always acknowledge Laos’ solidarity and valuable assistance for Vietnam’s pass struggle for national liberation and current national construction.

As the two countries are now stepping up renovation process and international integration, the Vietnamese Party chief called upon the two sides to further consolidate and strengthen the relationship, regarding this as an invaluable asset for future generations. 

On behalf of the Lao side, Vice President Buonnhang Vorachith affirmed that Lao Party, State and people always preserve the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation  and spare no effort to realize the Treaty and agreements reached by both sides./.
