VN, UK ink many pacts worth over US $4 bil.

VNGOP – At the UK-Việt Nam Business Forum held on February 04, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng witnessed the signing of many cooperation and investment agreements between English and Vietnamese enterprises, valuing more than US $4 billion totally.

The documents included a US $1-billion agreement on cooperation in exploiting and processing bauxite in Việt Nam between Vinacomin and BHP Billion Aluminum; a treaty between Saigon Invest and International Power on building a 1,200 MW thermoelectricity project in Central Việt Nam (US $1.5 billion); a memorandum of understanding between New World Fashion Plc (Việt Nam) and Tesco Group (US $900 million); an MoU on emission deflation certificates between BIDV and JP Morgan (US $280 million); an MoU between Vinalines and Standard Chartered Bank on a total loan of US $200 million; a contract with Jayroma London (US $53 million); and some agreements to provide scholarships to Vietnamese students (£ 1.23 million).

Earlier, in the talks with more than 500 English and Vietnamese businesses, PM Dũng mentioned some achievements in the 35-year relationship between Việt Nam and the UK. He emphasized great potentialities and advantages for the bilateral cooperation in all fields. The Vietnamese PM called on the UK businesses to enhance their activities in Việt Nam.

Mr. Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of the UK Trade and Investment, highly spoke of Việt Nam’s rapid development and confirmed that many UK enterprises are seeking for chances to do investment in Việt Nam.

In the afternoon of the day (London hour), after receiving Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband, PM Dũng had a meeting with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy, representatives of the Vietnamese community and students, and leaders of some Vietnamese organizations from ten European countries.
