VN attaches importance to closer friendship and cooperation with DPRK

VNGOP – At the invitation of PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, a high-ranking delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) headed by Premier Kim Yong Il arrived Hà Nội yesterday evening (October 26), starting their official visit to Việt Nam.

After the official welcoming ceremony solemnly held at the Presidential Palace in the morning of October 27, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had talks with Premier Kim Yong Il. In the afternoon of the day, Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh also delivered a reception to the DPRK PM.

During the meetings and talks, the Vietnamese and DPRK leaders briefed each others the situations in their respective countries, exchanged their opinions on solutions to further promote the bilateral friendship and multifaceted cooperation, and discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
The Vietnamese Party and Government leaders confirmed Việt Nam's consistent supports to the Korean people's aspiration for a Korean country of reunification, peace and prosperity. Việt Nam welcomes and advocates all efforts and solutions to boost talks, conciliations and cooperation in the Korean Peninsula, contributing to peace and stability in the region.
Both Vietnamese and Korean sides agreed to increase their delegation visits at all echelons and adopt orientations and solutions to expand the bilateral cooperation. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to make use of the Inter-governmental Committee for economic, scientific and technical cooperation, and encourage the two countries' enterprises to promote exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, science and other fields.
The two sides expressed their desire to continue their close collaboration on international forums, striving for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asian-Pacific region and the world.

After the talks, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his DPRK counterpart Kim Yong Il witnessed the signing of a cooperative document on cultural, artistic, scientific and education exchanges between the two countries in the 2008-2010 period between Việt Nam's Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports and the Korean Liaison Committee for Foreign Culture and a memorandum of understanding on agro-cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Korean Ministry of Agriculture.
