Speaking at the summits, PM Dung stressed on ASEAN’s priorities in building ASEAN Community and guaranteeing peace, stability, security, cooperation and development in the region.

He also proposed a number of measures to effectively and timely launch cooperative programs and projects within ASEAN members and between ASEAN and its partners in terms of economics, trade, investment, human resources development, information technology as well as responses to emerging challenges and non-traditional security issues.

The Vietnamese Government chief also urged partners to further support the establishment of ASEAN Community, especially in accelerating regional links and connectivity, narrowing the development gaps, ensuring sustainable use of Mekong River water sources and expanding comprehensive cooperation between Mekong countries and their related partners.

PM Dung called on partners to advocate ASEAN’s central role in regional cooperative frameworks and forums like ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3, East Asia Summit (EAS), ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the ASEAN Defense Ministerial Meeting Plus (ADMM+).

The Vietnamese leader highly valued achievements between ASEAN and its partners, including those between ASEAN and China during Viet Nam’s term as ASEAN Coordinator from July 2009 to July 2012 in fields of economics, trade, adaptation to natural disasters and climate change, education, cultural exchange and the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards the establishment of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

He applauded the ASEAN-China approval of a declaration on celebrating the 10th anniversary of DOC with the aim of affirming the value, importance and full implementation of DOC. This in turn will contribute to peace, stability, maritime security and safety in the East Sea , and the peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of abiding by international law, particularly the UNCLOS 1982, towards the building of COC./.
