VN wants to boost its ties with Japan, says PM

VGP - Việt Nam always attaches importance to its strategic partnership with Japan and will closely work with Japan on regional and international forums, stated PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

On Friday evening, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and leaders of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, who are all staying in Tokyo for the 1 st Mekong-Japan Summit, had separate meetings with Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito, Speaker of the House of Representatives Yokomichi Takahiro and President of the House of Councilors Eda Satsuki.

At these meetings, PM Dũng applauded Japan ’s efforts to enhance relations with Asia and the Mekong Sub-region in particular.

He took the occasion to thank Japan for assistance to Việt Nam . Japan is now the top economic partner, the biggest ODA donor, the second export market and the 4 th investor of Việt Nam , he said.

The Japanese Crown Prince and top law-makers all highly evaluated the cooperation between Japan and the Mekong Sub-region.

So far in 2009, over 20 exchange events have been organized in Japan and five Mekong Subregion countries, including an ASEAN tourism fair in Niigata (Central Japan) and the Japan Festival 2009 in Viêt Nam ’s ancient town of Hội An.

In early December, Việt Nam will host the Mekong-Japan Culture and Tourism Days.
