The Government leader spoke highly of the strong endeavor and high creativeness of the Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), the management board, contractors, effective coordination of relevant ministries and agencies, and positive support of local people for the operation of the first oil refinery.
“The Dung Quất refinery’s official operation is importantly significant to Việt Nam politics, socio-economic affairs, national defense and security during its industrialization and modernization course,” said the PM.
The Government chief added that the refinery lays the foundation and serves as an important kick-start for the development of Việt Nam’s petrochemical industry.
The PM also noted the refinery’s core industrial position in Quảng Ngãi province and the central region, saying it will enable the fast development of related services and industries as well as promote the provincial and regional economic restructuring for an economic balance with other regions in the country.
The US $3 billion refinery is capable of processing 6.5 million tons of crude oil a year. It churned out the first batch of petrol in February 22, 2009.
After two years of test run, the refinery processed 8.2 million tons of crude oil and produced 7.2 million tons of products worth VND 108,000 billion.
In 2011, the refinery expects to gain VND 77,000 billion revenue and pay VND 15,000 billion to the State budget./.
