Aquaculture sector eyes US $5 bln export revenue
VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng has ratified an aquaculture development project towards 2020 with a view to raising yearly output to over 4.5 million tons, earning US $5-5.5 billion from exports of aquaculture products and generating around 3.5 million jobs.

The project sets goals to increase Tra fish production to about 1.5-2 million tons (year-on-year growth of 4.8%), sea fish 200,000 tons (up 14.9%), green nipper shrimp 60,000 tons (up 11.6%).
Central and local producers have to perfect the systems of research, production and breed provision by 2020 while focusing on intensive farming, clean technologies, environmental protection and food hygiene.
The project put forth six priorities for the sector, namely formulating concentrated aquaculture areas, developing aquaculture system, carrying out research on aquatic cultivation, boosting technology transfer, producing breed, preventing epidemics and improve environment.
The PM also stressed the need to establish professional associations to protect legitimate rights of aquatic growers and help them connect with banks, experts, processing factories, and traders./.
