Accordingly, the program will continue to be implemented from 2014 to 2020 with the capital mainly coming from preferential official development assistance (ODA) or non-refundable ODA funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the French Agency for Development, the World Bank, the Export-Import Bank of Korea, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and several other development partners.
The program’s main target is supporting the construction and implementation of strategies, policies and projects responding effectively to negative effects of climate change in Viet Nam.
It also aims to support the implementation of tasks set out in the National Strategy on Climate Change, the Strategy on Green Growth and other strategies related to climate change while aiding activities related to policies, science, technology and finance of the Government, development partners and private organizations, in order to ensure effective utility of resources for responding to climate change in Viet Nam.
The National Committee for Climate Change is responsible to monitor and examine the program while the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment manages it.
The SP-RCC was launched in 2009 with technical and financial support of development partners. Over 200 policies on response to climate change have been implemented under the coordination between development partners and 10 Vietnamese ministries and agencies, reflecting the country’s resolution in responding to climate change.
