Czech PM’s visit to VN

VNGOP – The three-day official visit to Việt Nam on March 20-23 by Czech PM Mirek Topolanek is expected to be a new important mark in the Việt Nam-Czech relationship, giving the impetus to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the future.

After the official welcoming ceremony on March 21, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had talks with his Czech counterpart. On the same day, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết gave a reception to PM Mirek Topolanek.

The two PMs exchanged their opinions on bilateral ties, solutions to consolidate and strengthen these relations, especially in economy, trade, investment, education, labor, and agriculture.

The 2007 two-way trade turnover reached nearly US $200 million, up 21% against 2006. Việt Nam mainly exports agro-products, food, apparel, and medicines to Czech. Up to now, the Czech Republic has invested in Việt Nam about US $35 million to produce crystal, beer, electric devices, kaolin, and building materials. During PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng’s visit to the Czech Republic in September 2007, businesses of the two countries inked seven economic contracts worth of US $3.5 billion.

Both Việt Nam and the Czech Republic want to be the bridges for one another to establish comprehensive ties and promote effective cooperation within ASEM and between the EU and ASEAN.

PM Mirek Topolanek asserted that Czech always attaches importance to expanding and deepening the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Việt Nam, especially in such fields as building materials, mining, and environmental hygiene.

After the talks, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and PM Mirek Topolanek witnessed the signing of the Protocol to revise the November 25, 1997 Agreement on investment encouragement and protection, and the agreement on education cooperation in 2008-2011.

The Việt Nam-Czech Business Forum to boost economic ties

The Việt Nam-Czech Business Forum was held the same day to promote trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. The Forum was a chance for the two business communities to exchange information, seek for partners and survey their respective markets.

Addressing the Forum, PM Mireck Topolaneck stressed that Czech is willing to share its experience with Việt Nam in economic development. On the occasion, many enterprises signed some important cooperation pacts.
