Diversifying cooperation programs between VN and the US

VGP - Besides speeding up programs on trade and investment cooperation, Việt Nam expects the US to broaden its assistance and cooperation in other fields, such as manpower training for administrative management, climate change, rising sea level and humanitarian programs, said PM.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made the statement in the afternoon of July 4 in Hà Nội when he met Henrietta Fore, Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Government chief praised for the USAID's programs in Việt Nam, reiterating that Việt Nam consistently pursues a policy to enhance deep and comprehensive cooperation with the US in the interests of the two countries.

PM Dũng applauded the USAID's decision to open its representative office in Việt Nam and sign a memorandum on cooperation under the extended Support for Trade Acceleration (STAR) program (2010-2011). He hoped that USAID will continue to diversify cooperation activities with Vietnamese ministries and localities.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, PM Dũng thanked the US Government for its fruitful support and cooperation in HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

Administrator Henrietta Fore confirmed that the USAID will go on enhancing cooperation programs in Việt Nam like giving assistance to lawmaking, administrative reforms, intellectual property, and training for administrative manager.

Earlier on the same day, Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Nguyễn Xuân Phúc and Administrator Henrietta Fore witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation under the extended STAR Program (2010-2011).

STAR Program aims at promoting bilateral economic cooperation between Việt Nam and the US, assisting Việt Nam in the areas of lawmaking, and improving administrative capacity. Accordingly, the US will grant Việt Nam US $3 million per year.
