According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, Ebola virus infects humans through close contact with infected animals or spreads between humans by direct contact with infected blood, body fluids, and body organs.

The first Ebola case was detected in 1976 in Sudan. The outbreak of Ebola occurred in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, killing over 960 people.

No Ebola case has been reported in Viet Nam but the risk is possible as Vietnamese guest workers and students return home or tourists travel to the country from Africa.

PM Dung also tasked inferior levels to prepare for the worst situation when the virus appears in Viet Nam.

The Ministry of Health must closely follow up the situation and timely inform the public about the latest developments of the virus, try to make people aware of how it is transmitted.

Relevant ministries and agencies need to install machines at all border gates. Anyone suspected of contracting the virus must be isolated and treated properly, the Government chief requested.

PM Dung asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to issue travel restrictions to Ebola-hit countries./.
