Greater importance to be placed on anti-corruption in 2008

VNGOP – In 2007, laws and legal documents on anti-corruption have been popularized among civil servants; mechanisms and solutions to control corruptions tightened; some notorious corruption cases came up for trial; and many agencies in charge of anti-corruption established at all levels.

The above-mentioned results were obtained with a high consensus at a meeting on anti-corruption between the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption (CSCA) and leaders of 32 northern provinces held last week in Hà Nội.

Addressing the meeting, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, CSCA Chairman, asserted that, in order fulfill socio-economic goals in 2008, the hinge year of the five-year plan 2006-1010, greater importance must be attached to anti-corruption. The Government chief pointed out some major duties to be drastically carried out by all ministries, sectors and localities next year:

- To fight against corruption in a consistent and persistent manner under laws and with practical and effective actions;

- To further build up institutions for anti-corruption and speed up administrative reforms;

- To pay attention to inspection work at ministerial, sectoral and local levels;

- To encourage the public, mass organizations and media to take part in the struggle against corruption.
