PM, Deputy PM receive ASEM leaders

VGP – On the sideline of ASEM7 in Beijing, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng separately met on October 25 Thai PM Somchai Wongsawat, Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi, and Slovenian President Danilo Turk; Deputy PM, FM Phạm Gia Khiêm also had a reception with Portuguese FM Luis Amado.

Thai PM Somchai Wongsawat and PM Dũng showed their pleasure at the development of the bilateral relationship between the two countries, particularly in economics, trade and investment. The two sides agreed to cement and deepen cooperation in all fields, focusing on rice production and export, meeting the interests of the two countries and helping guaranteeing the world’s food security. PM Dũng asserted that Việt Nam will closely work with Thailand to make the bilateral relationship blossom in all fields at new depths, for mutual benefits as well as peace and stability in the region. The Thai PM highly spoke of Việt Nam’s achievements, confirming his plan to visit Việt Nam next month. He also invited PM Dũng to attend the 14 th ASEAN Summit scheduled in Chiang Mai in December 2008. PM Dũng gladly accepted the invitation.

In his meeting with Portuguese FM Luis Amado, Deputy PM, FM Phạm Gia Kiêm highlighted that the two countries have many great potentialities to expand multifaceted cooperation, especially in tourism, infrastructure construction, education and aquaculture. The Vietnamese Deputy PM suggested the two governments encourage and support Portuguese enterprises to do business in Việt Nam.

He also asked Portuguese to assist Việt Nam in the post-WTO period and in developing its ties with the European Union.
