The PM underlined that, in dealing with Vedan’s violations, it is necessary to ensure legitimate interests of the Company’s employees and other stakeholders.

The Government chief also allowed the Việt Nam Fund for Environment Protection to collect and spend, in line with legal stipulations, money paid by Vedan and some other polluters for administrative penalties, environment protection fees, and compensations for environment polluting activities, in order to realize projects and plans to address the environmental pollution in the Thị Vải River.

Some ministries were entrusted to propose revisions and supplementations of legal documents on environment protection. The Government will submit these amendments to the National Assembly for approval soon.

On October 6, Chief Inspector Lê Quốc Trung of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment inked Decision 131/QĐ-XPHC to enforce 12 penalties for Vedan’s administrative violations against environment protection. The total fine is VND 267.5 million. At the same time, Vedan must pay the environment protection arrears of VND 127 billion.
