The above general goal is highlighted in the Overall Plan for Environment Protection of Phú Quốc Island to 2010 and vision to 2020 just approved by the PM. Accordingly, the island’s environment will be protected and developed in a sustainable, regular and long-term way. The Plan also stresses pollution and recession control, and applying scientific and technological advances in environmental protection. It is also necessary to minimize harmful impacts of socio-economic activities on the natural environment, maintaining the forest area as well as water and air quality.
Keep pollution in control
To improve the environment quality, 100% of the local residents will be supplied with clean water. At the same time, a solid waste treating mill (capacity 200 tons/day) will be built soon.
By 2020, 100% of solid wastes and sewage from daily activities, industries, services, and hospitals will be collected and treated properly. The forest coverage on Phú Quốc is maintained at the rate of 75%.
Specific measures
To replant mangrove forests and promote afforestation on inundated alkaline land. To enrich mangrove forests by diversifying species of marine creatures and plants.
To plan and establish coral and algae reserves.
To plan eco-tourist sites and itineraries within the National Park and the buffer zone. To protect natural and preventive forests.
