Assessing the socio-economic development and the Government’s performance in 2007, all Cabinet members agreed that, despite of many difficulties, especially natural calamities, epidemics, and price escalation in the world market, Việt Nam still gained a record GDP growth rate of 8.5% for the last decade, an export revenue of over US $48.3 billion and attracted more than US $20 billion in FDI.

The above positive achievements have been resulted from the drastic direction from the Government and the PM as well as great efforts of all ministries, sectors and localities.

Development goals for 2008

GDP per capita: about US $960
Total development investment: VND 567.3 trillion (42% of GDP)
Total export turnover: US $57.6-58.6 billion (increasing by 20-22% against 2007)
Generating jobs for 1.7 million turns of laborers
Poverty rate reduced to 11-12%

In 2007, the Government fruitfully managed to improve the quality of institutions, providing a favorable legal corridor for socio-economic development; maintain macro balances and regulate prices under the market rules; supervise the construction and disbursement of State budget-using projects; and speed up the equitization of State-run enterprises. Administrative reforms, anti-corruption, and thrift practice were highly appreciated by the public.
Particularly, according to a report made by Minister, Head of the Government Office Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng’s online talks to the public was a turning point in the Government’s performance, showing the leaders’ transparency, openness and readiness to welcome people’s proposals and aspirations.
Mentioning the Government’s agenda in 2008, PM Dũng asked all ministries, sectors and local authorities to further boost the realization of nine solution groups submitted by the PM to the 12 th National Assembly.
The PM also ordered to put the socio-economic development plan into reality and control consumer prices right in early 2008. He asked ministries and sectors to prepare an abundant quantity of goods and ensure social order and safety during the traditional Lunar New Year.

1. To improve investment environment, accelerate growth rate, and increase quality, effectiveness, competitiveness and sustainability of the economy
2. To maintain macro-economic stability
3. To mobilize all resources for infrastructure development

6. To protect environment
7. To speed up administrative reforms, anti-corruption and thrift practice
8. To protect national sovereignty; maintain political security and social safety
9. To promote diplomatic activities in order to raise Việt Nam’s status in international arena
