PM directs to fight tobacco trafficking

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on May 21 chaired an online conference with 11 provinces and cities on reviewing the implementation of the Directive on fighting against tobacco smuggling.

The Government regards the prevention of smuggling, trade frauds and fake goods as the key task in its management work, said the PM.

He asked the National Steering Committee on the Prevention and Control of SmugglingTrade Fraud and Fake Commodities, ministries and localities propose specific directions and closely cooperate in fighting against smuggling.

PM Dung suggested raising tax on tobacco and intensify communications to raise public awareness of tobacco trafficking.

Ministries and localities were also asked to prevent smuggling activities at border areas, and improve the quality of domestic products.

Over the past six months, authorized agencies have uncovered over 5,400 tobacco-trafficking cases, collecting nearly 5.2 million packs of tobacco, and seizing 1,400 motorbikes, 31 cars and 22 canoes involved.

Police have also started legal proceedings against 108 cases with 176 people involved.
