The US $8-billion project, the biggest FDI one of its kind in Việt Nam so far, is expected to open new chances for the vigorous development of the Vũng Áng Economic Zone, becoming a driver for the economic development of Hà Tĩnh Province in particular and the entire Central Region in general. This will be a large-scale industrial and service city.
At the ceremony, the Government chief asked the investor to speed up the schedule while guaranteeing quality and supporting vocational training programs for locals. The PM also ordered local leaders to facilitate the realization of the project, particularly through site clearance and resettlement work.

The Sơn Dương Complex consists of an iron and steel mill to produce 7.5 million tons per year and a deep-water port with the capacity of 30 million tons. In the second stage, the mill will be upgraded to reach 15 million tons per year. Its main products are steel embryo, hot-rolled steel, hot-rolled steel plates, and others.

According to Mr. Wang Wenyuan, President of Formosa, the Complex will be built in two stages, requiring US $7.26 billion and US $8.29 billion respectively. It will provide jobs to 10,000 direct laborers. Once coming into operation, the Complex is one of the biggest ones in Southeast Asia, annually generating around 7.5 million tons of steel and receiving 200,00-300,000 tonnage ships.
