In 2007, though suffering a lot of natural calamities and epidemics, the agricultural production value still increased by 4.6% compared to 2006 thanks to great efforts made by the whole political apparatus, all governmental agencies and farmers.

Addressing the conference, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asked the sector to do its best in fulfilling goals of the 2006-2010 plan, so as to bring Việt Nam out of the status of a poor and underdeveloped country by 2009–2010.

The Government chief also urged the sector to focus on developing industries and services in rural areas, facilitating the on-the-spot labor restructure, applying scientific and technical advances in production activities, promoting mechanization, and saving energy, water and fertilizers.

The PM placed an importance on infrastructure construction in the countryside, providing vocational training to farmer’s children, and boosting administrative reforms and anti-corruption.
