The Government chief made the emphasis while working with SOEs’ leaders on Ausgust 8 in Hà Nội to review their performance during the first seven months of 2008.

For the first half of 2008, SOEs’ revenue and profits respectively reached 59% and 53% of the year plan; cancelled 1,145 unnecessary projects to save nearly VND 34 trillion.

He praised SOEs for their great efforts over the past time to take part in stabilizing marco-economy and prices, maintaining growth rate, boosting export to narrow the trade gap, and balancing the demand and supply of such primary goods as electricity, fuels, steel, fertilizers, cement, medicines, and transport services.
To realize the 2008 plan, PM Dũng pointed out essential tasks that SOEs must focus on and asked them to do their utmost to manifest their role as the central palyers of the economy.
First of all, he urged SOEs to promote their main usiness and production activities, maintain the demand-supply balance of goods, step up export; do investment fruitfully; and popularize thrift practice and application of technological advances.
Besides, they should tighten the price control so as to stabilize the selling price of some products until the end of 2008 as directed by the PM.
The eqitization of SOEs is also highlighted by the PM as one of central tasks in the time to come.
"By fulfilling their own year plans, SOEs will contribute to the successful completion of the national master plan of socio-economic development. With high consensus and joint efforts, we will surely push back inflation and obtain a sustainable growth", concluded PM Dũng.
