PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stated that both Vietnamese Government and people will spare no effort to bring the traditional relationship with India to new heights for mutual benefit.

Expressing his gratitude to India’s recognition for Việt Nam’s market economy, the Vietnamese Government chief confirmed Việt Nam’s support to India to seek a permanent seat in expanded UN Security Council and become a non-permanent member of the Council in the term of 2011-12.

Indian President Pratibha Devisigh Patil showed her hope that the Vietnamese Government will give more preferential policies to Indian enterprises because many of them want to do business in Việt Nam in the aspects of hydroelectricity, mining, and metallurgy.

The guest leader highlighted that Việt Nam always holds an important position in India’s “Towards the East” policy, strongly believing in the fine bilateral relations in the time to come.

Since the establishment of their strategic partnership, the Việt Nam-India cooperation has been developing well, especially in trade and investment.

The two-way trade turnover reached US $1.5 billion last year (up 50% compared to 2006) and US $1.7 billion in the first seven months of 2008. Currently, India ranks the 27th among 76 countries and territories doing investment in Việt Nam. Since 2007, some Indian giants started to carry out large-scale in Việt Nam, including a US $3.5 billion steel complex in the central province of Hà Tĩnh.
