VN wants to contribute more to development, peace and security in the world

VNGOP – On the 30th anniversary of Việt Nam’s admission to the United Nations and the opening of the 62nd UN General Assembly, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his spouse gave a banquet in the evening of September 26 (local time) in New York in honor of leaders of many countries. PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stated that Việt Nam wants to receive supports from all UN members to its bid for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in the term 2008-2009.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asserted that, after 30 years since its accession to the UN, Việt Nam has made significant contributions to the international community.

The PM pointed out that, Việt Nam, with its peaceful diplomatic policy, wishes to play a greater role in the global efforts for development, peace and security in the world.

“On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, I would like to thank and highly value your support to Việt Nam’s bid. We hope to receive the support from all UN members,” said the PM.

PM Dũng also conveyed his gratitude to countries, international organizations and American friends and overseas Vietnamese for their great contributions to Việt Nam. He was convinced that the UN would gain new achievements in its performance.

On the same day, Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Phạm Gia Khiêm had meetings with FMs of Syria, Iran, Uruguay, and Iceland who all showed their support to Việt Nam’s bid for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
