Yên Tử classified as national forest

VGP - The Government chief has agreed to establish Yên Tử National Forest in the northern province of Quảng Ninh with historical, cultural and environmental values.

Covering an area of 2,783 hectares, Yên Tử is not only a well-known tourist attraction but also a centre of Việt Nam’s Buddhism.

Biological and aesthetic values of the forest will be preserved and promoted while cultural and historical assets of Trúc Lâm monastery in the area will be upheld.

The State will work out projects to protect fauna and flora, historic sites, and traditional festivals in the area.

The national forest will consist of three sections including protective section (768.4 hectares); ecological restoration section (1,855.3 hectares) and administrative and service section (159.3 hectares).

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quảng Ninh was assigned to ratify and conduct the investment project.

Yên Tử forest is home to a variety of animal and plant species, including 830 kinds of plants, of which 38 have been recognized as valuable and rare such as erythrophloeum fordid, teakwood, textured wood and pedocarpus fleurgi.

Yên Tử also has a rich fauna, of which 23 species have been recorded on Việt Nam’s Red book for their scarcity./.
