At Boao Forum, PM says Asia a new driving force for world economy

VGP – Delivering an important speech at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference this morning in China’s Hainan, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stressed that, with its traditional values, consolidated macro-economy, high determination and sound leadership, Asia will surmount the global economic crisis and function as a new motive power for the world’s economic development.

The BFA Annual Conference, one of the world’s most important economic forums, was officially opened at 11 AM (local hour) in Boao City.

Addressing the event, PM Dũng asserted that the foundation of the BFA reflects the far-seeing vision of Chinese and Asian leaders. The Forum has really become a gathering of politicians, scholars and businessmen, where they can share experience and new ideas for effective cooperation toward development and prosperity of each and every country as well as Asia as a whole.

“We strongly believe that Asia, with their traditional values, macro-economic basis consolidated after the East Asia crisis at the end of the last century, high determination and sound leadership, the Asian economies will surmount the crisis soon and play as a new driving force for the world economy’s development,“ said PM Dũng.

He praised active and significant contributions made by China within G20 and in coping with the current crisis, adding that China will become the first big economy to recover its growth pace.

The PM stated that Việt Nam will closely coordinate with China and other Asia countries to boost regional cooperation, especially in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), through speeding up the construction of economic corridors and realizing the GMS Agreement on cross-border transportation.

Emphasizing anti-protectionism and free trade, the Vietnamese leader asked the developed countries to further assist developing ones with capital, technologies, market access and trade development.

The PM took the occasion to brief Việt Nam’s recent achievements in its fight against the crisis. “The Vietnamese Government is taking many fundamental measures to lay the foundation for the country’s sustainable development in the coming years,“ said PM Dũng, adding that Việt Nam is still a dynamic economy and a trustworthy destination for investors.

He expressed his hope that, at the Forum, many good ideas and proposals will be raised, so that Asia can make full use of its potentialities and advantages in order to continue being the world’s dynamic economic center.
