FGD use at thermoelectric plants to be assessed

VGP - The Ministry of Construction has been instructed to assess the use of flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) technologies at thermoelectric plants and then report them to the PM for consideration.

Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải has instructed the ministry to appraise the conversion of waste collected from FGD systems of thermoelectric plants into gypsum.

According to calculations, if all coal-fired plants in Việt Nam install synchronous systems using advanced FGD technologies, they can recover 4-5 million tons of commercial gypsum used as additives of cement and plaster, and collect over 20 million tons of fly ashes and slag, used to produce additives and building materials.

Flue-gas desulfurization is a technology used to remove sulfur dioxide from the exhaust flue gases of fossil-fuel power plants, and chemical producers of sulphur oxides.
