PM Dũng leaves for ASEAN summits

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng today left for Pattaya, Thailand, to attend the high-ranking meetings between ASEAN and partners, namely ASEAN +1, ASEAN + 3, East Asia Summit, ASEAN–UN Summit, which will be held on April 10-12.

The meetings are components of the 14 th ASEAN Summit, attracting leaders of ten ASEAN member countries and six dialogue partners: Australia, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand and the UN Secretary-General.

ASEAN leaders and their partners will discuss orientations and measures to deepen cooperation in coping with the global financial crisis; food and energy security; natural disaster control and mitigation; realization of the Millennium Development Goals; and other regional and international issues of common concern.

Many important documents on those issues will be approved. Besides, Foreign and Economic Minister plan to ink a number of cooperation agreements.

Prior to the ASEAN Summit with Dialogue Partners, Foreign Ministers will have an unofficial meeting. The first meeting of the ASEAN Political and Security Council is also convened.

The Vietnamese delegation led by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng will give priorities to promoting relations with each and every partners; calling upon assistance for the construction of the ASEAN Community and narrowing development gap; finding out solutions for global and transnational issues; and cooperation to guarantee ASEAN’s role in the mechanisms and processes in the Asia-Pacific region./.
