Assessing the socio-economic situations in August and over the past eight months, Cabinet members agreed that socio-economic development has been sustained at a high rate. However, to reach a GDP growth rate of 8.5-9.5% during 2007-2010, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asked the ministries, sectors and local authorities to focus on the following major duties:
To build and perfect the regime of socialist-orientated market economy; to create an equal cooperative and competitive environment for all economic sectors, in line with Vietnamese laws and international practices in the process of regional and international integration;
To further improve the economy’s efficiency and competitiveness; to tighten social equity; to attract investments from people and foreign investors;
To fruitfully realize policies on culture, education-training, poverty reduction, caring for ethnic minorities, especially those in remote areas;
To enhance administrative reforms and improve the effectiveness of the State management apparatus;
To prevent and eradicate corruption in all fields of the social life.
The agenda also mentioned the solutions to ameliorate the working procedures and make the national administration to operate in effective, consistent, transparent and smooth manner.
According to the PM’s direction, it is necessary to improve the information and reporting work, minimize written documents, and speed up the application of information technology. The Government head placed a great importance on responsibilities of ministers and Cabinet members.
It is reported that the Cabinet also discussed its draft Program of Action and the draft decree on functions, duties, power and structure of some ministries.
