PM hopes for an int’l-standard tertiary education

VGP – The education sector should make greater efforts to convert domestic universities into international-standard ones in order to nurture a highly-qualified workforce for the cause of national socio-economic development, stated PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made the statement this morning at the nationwide meeting of universities and colleges to review the school-year 2008-2009 and kick-start the new school-year 2009-2010.

He required the sector to further improve training quality. "The education sector must strengthen the contingent of teachers and lecturers," emphasized the PM.

The Government chief urged the sector to quickly renew its financial mechanism and encourage social forces to engage in educational development.

The Government is determined to build concentrated dormitory groups for at least 60% of students, said PM Dũng.

Deputy PM, Minister of Education and Training Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, addressing the meeting, reiterated that the meeting is an opportunity for the education sector to confirm its determination to create breakthroughs in tertiary education structure and management in three years.

The Ministry of Education and Training reported that in the school-year 2008-2009, many programs and plans were implemented to renew the tertiary training system in a comprehensive way.

In the school-year 2009-2010, some training programs of regional and world leading universities will be piloted for the first time, said the Ministry.

At least four international-standards universities will be built as required by the PM.
