Thanh Hóa should quickly get out of poverty, says PM

VNGOP – As part of his working visit to Central Việt Nam, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and the Government delegation worked with leaders of Thanh Hóa Province on February 18.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asked the local authorities at all echelons in Thanh Hóa to focus on development investments, poverty reduction, administrative reforms, anti-corruption and human resource training.

The PM suggested some specific solutions for Thanh Hóa to obtain strong development in the time to come. The province should make use of its advantages, perfect planning schemes, attract and encourage businesses to invest in profitable industries, such as cement production, shipbuilding, and seaport construction.

PM Dũng agreed in principle with eleven proposals of Thanh Hóa for building the Nghi Sơn Economic Zone, Ngọc Lặc Industrial Park, national highways, bridges, irrigation works, dykes, hospitals and schools. He urged the province to create more favorable conditions for investors.

On the occasion, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his entourage paid visits to some historical sites and factories.

Thanh Hóa has an area of 11,000 km2 and a population of 3.7 million. In 2007, Thanh Hóa gained per capita GDP of US $519.5. This year, the province is targeting to obtain a growth rate of 12%, GDP per capita of US $578, total investment of VND 14.5 trillion ; down poor households to 23%, and generate 50,000 jobs.
