US Deputy Secretary of State visits VN to consolidate bilateral ties
VGP – Starting his 4-day working visit to Việt Nam to review the development of Việt Nam–US relationship and discuss measures of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte met PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and had some working sessions with leaders of the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education and Training, National Defense, and Public Security on September 11.

Both host and guest acknowledged positive advances in various aspects of the bilateral relationship and enthused the future friendship and cooperation between Việt Nam and the US. Currently, four working teams of the two countries in charge of trade, investment, education, climate change and sea level rising are effectively conducting a number of practical plans of action. The US side pledged to continue their policies to develop the relations with Việt Nam. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte affirmed that the US Government wants to promote its cooperation with the Vietnamese Government in different fields, further assist Việt Nam in clearing landmines, seeking for Vietnamese missing in action cases and dealing with consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin. | | | Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm and Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte - Photo: VGP | The Vietnamese leaders stated that the two countries should further solidify the friendly and constructive partnership and multifaceted cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and benefit and equality as confirmed in three joint declarations of senior leaders.
