The expressway will be the longest of its kind in Việt Nam, requiring an ever biggest investment sum.
Once completed, it will help boost socio-economic development in the right bank of the Red River and the country’s Northwest as well.
Linking Hà Nội and Hải Phòng to the Kunming–Hà Khẩu Expressway in order to form the Kunming–Hải Phòng Route, one of important lines for development and cooperation in the greater Mekong Sub-region, the expressway is expected to facilitate trade exchanges between Việt Nam and China.
At the ceremony, PM Dũng hailed related parties for their efforts in completing preparations for the work.
He also highly spoke of the Asian Development Bank’s role (ADB) as the main donor for the project.

The expressway is a part of the Kunming-Hải Phòng corridor, running 264km along the Red River through Hà Nội, Vĩnh Phúc, Phú Thọ, Yên Bái, and Lào Cai.

The Hà Nội-Lào Cai Expressway requires a total investment capital of nearly VND 20,000 billion. The Việt Nam Expressway Company (VEC) is the investor and the Posco Engineering & Construction (Republic of Korea) is the contractor. It was designed in line with standards for grade-A expressways (TCVN5729-97), with the design speed of 80-100km/h.
