Energizing VN-Guangdong business cooperation

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng kicked off his visit to China’s Guangdong Province by attending the Việt Nam-China Business Forum, held by the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the China International Trade Promotion Committee (CITPC) in Guangzhou City today.

Addressing the event, drawing the participation of over 500 enterprises from the two countries and Guangdong’s high ranking officials, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng re-affirmed that the two neighboring countries have maintained a long-standing relationship which has been flourishing during the past years.

Stating that Việt Nam and China in general and Guangdong in particular have great potentials for further economic cooperation, the PM urged the two countries to finalize the 2010 target of bilateral trade turnover of US $25 billion, in which the figure with Guangdong alone is US $5 billion.

PM Dũng asserted that the Vietnamese Government will do its at most to further empower the comprehensive ties with China and Guangdong in particular.

He praised for the efforts made by VCCI and CITPC to organize the event as it was a practical chance for the two sides’ business communities to exchange information and share cooperation opportunities.

Việt Nam has so far considered foreign investors as an indispensible part of its national economy, PM Dũng stressed, calling on Chinese investors, including those from Guangdong, to expand operations in Việt Nam.

Speaking at the forum, Guangdong’s Party Secretary Wang Yang commented that the relations between Vietnamese ministries and localities with Guangdong are increasingly deepened.

Guangdong’s enterprises hope to enlarge cooperation with Vietnamese partners, including building the Shenzhen economic and trade center in Hải Phòng, he revealed.

Also at the forum, PM Dũng witnessed the signing ceremony of some agreements between Guangdong and Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The Việt Nam-China bilateral trade turnover reached US $20 billion in 2008. Meanwhile, the Việt Nam-Guangdong trade volume alone stood at around US $3.4 billion, up 37% against the previous year.

Guangdong is finalizing the construction of a US $4-billion project in Hải Phòng.

Now, China is conducting some 600 projects in Việt Nam, totally worth of over US $2 billion.
